Shakira's debut album, released when she was 13 and featuring songs she'd written since she was just eight. The album was only released in Colombia and is not currently available to purchase.

Shakira's second album, released through Sony Colombia when Shakira was 16 years old. It features three songs written by Shakira herself.

Shakira was only 18 years old when she launched “Pies Descalzos”, an album which reached #1 in eight countries and was #3 on the US Billboard Top Latin Albums chart. The album was produced by Luis F. Ochoa and sold approximately 5 million copies worldwide. There were six singles released from the “Pies Descalzos” album: “Estoy Aquí”, “¿Dónde Estás Corazón?”, “Pies Descalzo, Sueños Blancos”, “Un Poco de Amor”, “Antología” and “Se Quiere Se Mata”. For this album, Shakira received three Billboard Latin Music Awards in the categories of Album of the Year, Best New Artist and Video of the Year for “Estoy Aqui”.

The album title for "¿Dónde Están Los Ladrones?", which translates to “Where Are the Thieves?” was conceived by an unpleasant event experienced by Shakira. While waiting in an airport in Bogotá, a thief stole Shakira’s bag which held all of the lyrics and partitures of the songs for her new album. ¿Dónde Están Los Ladrones? sold 10 million copies worldwide. Shakira received 2 Latin Grammy’s from this album, including Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. She also received her first Grammy nomination for Best Latin Rock Alternative Album.
8 out of the 11 tracks on this album became singles: “Ciega, Sordomuda”, “Moscas En La Casa”, “No Creo”, “Inevitable”, “Tú”, “Si Te Vas”, “Octavo Día” and “Ojos Así”.

MTV UNPLUGGED

Shakira’s MTV Unplugged album was recorded acoustically in New York on August 12th 1999. The album led to her first Grammy Award (for Best Latin Pop Album). It was produced by Emilio Estefan Jr., featured music arranged by Tim Mitchell and sold more than 5 million copies worldwide.

Laundry Service

Creating Laundry Service was a great challenge for Shakira. For the first time in her musical career she came out with a crossover album, recording songs in both English and Spanish. Clearly, she overcame this challenge as the album became top 3 in the United States and the United Kingdom and more than 20 million copies were sold worldwide. Shakira received four MTV Latin America Awards (Best Female Artist, Best Pop Artist, Video of the Year (for “Suerte”), and Artist of the Year) for Laundry Service. She also received the Latin Grammy for Best Music Video for the single “Suerte”. A total of 6 singles were released from Laundry Service: “Whenever, Wherever (Suerte)”, “Te Dejo Madrid”, “Underneath Your Clothes”, “Objection (Tango)”, “The One” and “Que Me Quedes Tu".

in an innovative move, Shakira decided to issue a new project, 2 albums- One in Spanish and one in English- a few months apart. She wrote 60 songs and then divided then divvied them up for the two projects. "Fijación Oral Vol.1" came out in June 2005 and landed at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S., making it the highest debut ever for a Spanish language album in the SoundScan era. It topped the Billboard Latin Album chart upon release, as well as charts in nine other countries. The lead single, “La Tortura”, which features Spanish superstar Alejandro Sanz, shot to #1 on the Hot Latin Tracks Billboard chart, where it stayed for a staggering, record-setting 25 weeks. The album was also an instant sensation closer to home, selling out across South America. It was certified platinum based on first-day sales in Venezuela and triple platinum in her native Colombia. Three days after its release, it had already sold a remarkable one million copies. It has since gone onto sell close to four million units.
Shakira received many awards for this album, including 2 ALMA Awards, 5 Billboard Latin Music Awards, 1 Grammy and 5 Latin Grammys
